Have any of you been put off setting up a Youth group because of the complicated child protection legislation we have now? Or are any of you thinking about it, but are daunted by the thought?

GAMA started going down this road about 18 months ago when we decided to do "Annie" and it was just as well since, as soon as "Annie" was finished, we set up GAMA Youth.

My OH was already Child Protection Officer for her church and a Cub Scout Leader and so it was a no-brainer that she should take on the role for GAMA. She has spent the last 18 months developing our system, researching best practice in The Church of Scotland, NODA, Scouting and Fife Council and has developed what we believe to be a very workable system, which has been fully approved by CRBS.

She has just finished an introduction and step by step guide for this system which she is circulating to all the NODA Scotland Reps.

If anyone is interested, PM me your email address and I can send you a zip file of all the documentation and the introduction stuff. She has developed this herself and it is freely available copyright free. It may suit your group or it may not, but hopefully it wil help you to get started.

Be careful with this disc. Scots law is different fro English law and the NODA disc refers to English law. It's a great guide to best practice, but disclosure systems etc are different in Scotland.
